Parish Retreats
A Parish Retreat Offered by the DCE
Orthodox Surprises is the title of a retreat offered by the Department of Christian Education to parishes, regional groups, and Church organizations. The retreat presents the stories of Biblical figures such as Esther, Susannah and Daniel in a fuller way than many people know them. The Orthodox Bible, the Septuagint, gives a deep and rich picture of these people and makes them great examples for our personal growth in faith. Other figures--monastics, modern saints, and some perhaps lesser-known Biblical people--are also part of the presentation.
The day will include discussion, small-group reflection, handouts, book recommendations and teaching suggestions.
The retreat is planned for 5 hours, with short breaks in between sessions. Most host groups plan for a Saturday with 2 1/2 hours in the morning, a lunch break, and 2 1/2 hours in the afternoon. The host parish or group is responsible for the presenter's travel and accomodations plus an honorarium in any amount, as well as lunch, any refreshments, and handout printing costs.
